Singhgad Trek Report.....Continue......

We just managed to climb 1/3 of the height in next1 hour. We again started moving up the slope and this time Sushant took care to be always behind me to hold if I slipped. But after some time I regained my energy and start climbing up fast. As both Sushant and I were wearing specs the raindrops started accumulating on it and we needed to clean them out frequently. Someone suggested removing it but then it would have been more risky. We joked that why wipers are not available for specs. The slope was becoming slippery due to the rain and we needed to take extra care while climbing. One more danger was the big stones on path. If any of it would have detached then it could have surely carried at least 2 of us with it. Finally after 2 ½ hours we reached at base of the fort where the normal path ends. There were many people around who came with their vehicle but as it was still morning it was not that crowded. We took some jamuns from a fruit seller which tasted really delicious.
Finally we reached at the top of the fort. There are many points around to see but the thick fog obstructed our view. We were hardly able to see anything beyond 50 meters. As there were some experienced trekkers in our group they knew the area very well. So, first we saw the Rajaram Maharaj Samadhi and Tilak Bangala from outside. Then we went to search the famous wind point.
On the way one fellow had shown us the way to the Kalyan Darwaja, which leads to the Kalyangao located, deep below the fort. We reached there after some search and there we saw the old broken monument which is still standing firm to exhibit the glory of the fort. There was even a well with water at that height. We meet old women who came from Kalyangao to sell the curd at the fort. They pleaded us to purchase it but all of us felt that it will be risky to have it in such cold and rainy weather. But as the old ladies requested a lot we decided to go for 2 cups. The curd was in a small mataka and really good to taste.
Then we headed towards finding the Tanaji Kada and Wind Point. The Tanaji Kada is the toughest side of the fort from where Tanaji climbed the fort to defeat the Mughals. We walked around the fence to view the deep valley below. We reached at Tanaji Kada and it was a complete straight slope. You can’t imagine that someone can climb this only with ropes. Then we went to Wind Point. This is the best point on all of the sites we saw. As it’s name implies this point is famous for the wind. You can hardly stand at this point without support. The wind was flowing with great speed and it was very difficult to balance against it. Added to this there was continuous raining outside. This wind with rain made all of us feel chilled. We decided to halt at a Dhaba out there for lunch. The menu was Jhunaka Bhakar with pakoda’s and Chatani. We got it ½ hour after the order was placed. All of us were so hungry and chilled that everyone was desperately eating the food without uttering a word. Two of us were so chilled that they had to go near the stove to gain some heat. We finished the lunch in ½ hour and then I opted for a hot cup of tea.
Now it was time to go back. The rain outside stopped for a while and we started our journey back. On the way we had Garam Bhutta to eat. As it is 2pm the crowd was pouring in on the fort and we had nice bird watching around. I suggested we will go by jeep on our return journey but the other trekkers denied the idea and we were back on our track. It was 4 km down that we had to go. Though its less energy consuming when you go down but its also difficult to hold your balance when the slope is slippery. I shown some extra energy and excitement, which resulted in losing my balance 2 times but luckily, it didn’t make any harm. On the way back we stopped twice. Once when we got a very clear view of the surrounding and other near the waterfall. We reached at the bottom at 3.30 pm that’s just in 1 and ½ hours. We directly went to the bus stop and got 4.00 pm bus to Pune. All of us were so tired and chilled that everyone had a nap for next 1 hour until the bus arrived at the last stop.
It was really a great outing, which started my outing schedule for this season and still many destinations on the list. The 3 days after the trek was really hard. My thighs were paining so badly that I was hardly able to use staircase. But there was no regret as what we seen and experienced was something which will sooth 100 times more pain than this!!!! (Some of the trek photos are uploaded here and rest of them are kept at HERE
